CBT & motorcycle training FAQs

Everything riders ask us most. Still not sure? Get in touch — a real instructor will help.

Is the CBT a test?

No — it’s Compulsory Basic Training. There’s no pass/fail and no examiner; you receive a DL196 certificate when your instructor is satisfied you can ride safely. Read more →

Can I fail my CBT?

No. If you need more time, you simply book back in to finish the parts you need — there’s no exam to fail.

How long does a CBT take?

Usually one day, around 6–8 hours depending on the group size and your progress.

How old do I have to be?

You must be 16 or over for a moped/125. Check current DVSA age rules for specific entitlements, or ask us.

What can I ride after my CBT?

A 125cc motorcycle or moped on the road with L-plates for up to two years. For bigger bikes, see Beyond CBT.

How much does a CBT cost?

From £225, including the bike, helmet with Cardo intercom, jacket, fuel, third-party insurance and your DL196 on the day.

Do I need my own bike or kit?

No — we provide the bike, helmet, intercom and jacket. Boots and gloves can be hired. Just bring sturdy jeans (no rips) and a valid UK licence.

What do I need to bring?

A valid UK provisional or full driving licence, sturdy jeans, warm/weather-appropriate clothing, and some lunch and a drink.

How do I book?

Book online through our booking system, or call 01925 551 555. See course details →

What is Direct Access (DAS)?

It’s the training route to a full licence so you can ride bigger bikes without restriction. The category depends on your age and experience. Learn more →

What are Module 1 and Module 2?
